KLEIN CONSTANTIA - Chardonnay 2006/7 75cl Bottle

The ripeness levels and fruit quality of this vintage are due largely to the well timed rains which fell in January 2005 and the relatively cool preceding summer which ensured that the vines experienced optimal growing conditions leading up to the harvest. Pale gold in colour with aromas of orange blossom and custard apples, laced with clove-like woodspice. The palate is temptingly soft whilst retaining firm structure. The underlying oak flavours are subtle, supporting the palate rather than dominating it. A long tapered finish punctuates this well-balanced wine. Approximately 60% barrel fermented in mainly new French oak 500L puncheons, and some 2nd fill French oak 300L hogsheads. The remainder was fermented in stainless steel tanks. An inoculated malolactic fermentation took place in the new barrel-fermented component. The wines were stored on their fine lees until bottling, in February 2006.
