Domdechant Werner Hochheimer Domdechaney Riesling Spatlese 2001 WHITE Germany

Fine German Riesling is one of the world's most divine wines and in this stunning spatlese from the superb 2001 vintage you have a true classic of the Rheingau. It was in 1780 the father of Dr. Franz Werner the renowned "Domdechant" (dean) of the Cathedral of Mainz acquired from the Count York the Hochheim wine estate. Today the estate still bears his name and is owned and operated by the 7th generation of the family. It's a very picturesque estate with its classical manor house and vaulted cellars so well worth a visit if ever you're passing. The estate-bottled wines are found in leading wine shops and restaurants in Europe and abroad and are held in the highest esteem. Fabulously fresh nose of limes and minerals with a racy-fresh palate and impeccable balance. The hint of sweetness is offset by the Riesling's natural acidity so the wine finishes clean as a whistle. With just 8% alcohol it makes an ideal luncheon wine or mid-week drink.
