Conti Carello Vigna San Lorenzo 2006 WHITE Italy

The term 'classico' is crucial here as it signifies a wine from the finest vineyards around the beautiful medieval town of Soave. And few estates here own finer vineyards than historic Vigna San Lorenzo - at 40 years old their vines are much older than the region's average and yield precious amounts of deeply concentrated juice. In the hands of master winemaker Paolo Confente the results are mouthwateringly good! Then there's the 2006 vintage ... "unquestionably the best in the last five years" according to top Italian wine publication Giorno del Vino. And this is one of the best 2006 whites we've found. Lovely stuff! "In the glass that means richer pear and melon flavours and an even smoother underlying richness than in other years ... then subtle almond notes and a delicately spicy satisfyingly crisp finish. Ideal with light salads."
