Villa Mare Bianco WHITE Italy

Villa Mare Bianco WHITE Italy
Cream-of-the-crop white that marries Sicily's full-flavoured Grecanico with speciality Catarrato plus a dash of melony Chardonnay. Absolutely top value. And that's because the grapes are sourced from top vineyards in both Sicily and Italy's high Abruzzi hills - hence the humble Vino da Tavola tag. One sip and you'll agree it should cost much more. Crafted by talented young winemaker Scipione Giuliani who has used his experience of barrel-aged wines to give more complexity. Pale lemon in colour. Simple peachy and slightly grassy nose with a fresh clean palate hints of ripe peach and slight floral tones. Supremely quaffable at a great price. With its jagged coasts seething volcanos and stony hillsides Sicily emblemises the Mediterranean but - despite being one of Italy's most important regions in terms of quantity - its quality wines are less well known. That is now changing.
