Reserve de Gassac Grande Cuvee 2004 WHITE France

Aime Guibert's Mas de Daumas Gassac shot from obscurity 25 years ago to lead a thrilling quality revolution in southern France. His wines were hailed as 'a miracle'... experts debated whether it was more like Lafite or Latour...revered wine writer and Sotheby's expert Michael Broadbent described Aime's white as "One of the top ten whites in the world." The Grande Cuvee is made from small patches of vines (mainly ripe aromatic Sauvignon) growing amid the sparse southern stone and scrub. The wine's 'secret' is the careful use of intense but little-known local varieties and light barrel-ageing lending exotic complexity and uniquely delicious flavours. Bright and herby. A fresher style of Gassac on the nose but the palate is familiar; exotic juicy southern weight and a strong finish. Terrific!
