Marthinus Chenin Blanc 2005 WHITE South Africa

The quality of South African wines has blossomed in recent years - "you'll pay twice or three times as much to get such good quality from Australia or California" (Jancis Robinson). And Marthinus is a top quality Cape estate producing this ultra-fresh gem. Their old-vine Chenin (the great grape of the Loire) has been a favourite for many years. Key to its appeal is a wonderful depth of fruit - rich and concentrated but also crisply refreshing with zesty citrus aromas and generous tropical fruit. Like Colombard Chenin is another Old World grape that has shot to the top of the form book in the New World. Firm and racey with lemon lime lychee and honey on the nose this is delicious with chicken pasta or salads.
