Marthinus Chardonnay 2006 WHITE South Africa

As this comes from a long line of medal-winners we had no hesitation in commissioning an exclusive parcel of the 2006 Chardonnay ... and true to form it soon picked up a Silver Medal from the Chardonnay du Monde competition. The Bovlei Winery is situated at the foot of the majestic Hawekwa mountain range which rises steeply from the plains like a massive gateway into the African continent with the vineyards situated on sunny slopes. Handpicking during the early hours of the morning preserved the crispness of the fruit as did a long cool fermentation. The wine left on its yeast sediment to extract further richness and flavour is barrel-aged in French and US oak for three months. Lemon yellow with rich buttered honey flavours and layers of clean citrus fruit ... plus a pleasingly refreshing finish.
