Koster-Wolf Alzeyer Romerberg Kerner Auslese 2005 WHITE Germany

Kerner is a relatively new and highly successful German grape variety bred in 1969 and named after the writer of numerous well-known German drinking songs! It is considered a high quality grape with some of the same character as the noble Riesling. This wine is an Auslese - one of the highest quality levels for German wine and in this case indicating considerable sweetness. The Koster-Wolf winery is located in the heart of the Rheinhessen in the small wine community of Albig which has been growing grapes for 1200 years. The winery has been in the same family since the 17th century and the original timber-framed house built in 1774 remains the family home. A ripe floral-scented wine with crisp citrusy flavours impressive intensity and sweetness nicely balanced by natural acidity. Serve chilled with fruit tarts nuts and dried fruit or sweeter main courses such as duck in plum sauce.
