Feudo di Maria Grillo 2005 WHITE Italy

Although an integral component of the rich dark wines of Marsala Grillo has the acidity and finesse to make wonderful dry white table wines like this. The Di Marias have a long history of winemaking but are definitely not hidebound by tradition. Since 2000 they have teamed up with fellow local experts the Biscardo family in order to produce very high quality Sicilian wines. 2005 was a top vintage in Sicily - many rate it the BEST EVER. Conditions were warm but there was no excessive heat so grapes could ripen gradually. It also managed to escape the rain that hindered the harvest in many areas on the mainland. Citrus-flavoured full-bodied with a interesting touch of earthiness this is a wine to refresh you on hot Summer days or to cut through the fat of roast capretto (baby kid) in the great Sicilian tradition!
