Berton Maria's Block Semillon 2006 WHITE Australia

When Australia becomes a republic it should toast its new president with a glass of Australia's icon white Semillon. So says writer Max Allen and many other critics would agree. For Semillon you see more so than Chardonnay Shiraz or Riesling is a wine that Australia 'does' like no one else. The most classic examples come from the Hunter Valley cost a small fortune and can last decades. Out in the Riverina in inimitable fashion they make excellent examples of Semillon at far more down to earth prices. We love this one from Bob Berton's new winery. The fruit comes from his partner Frank Sergi's vineyard - a small parcel named after Frank's mother Maria. Zippy fresh un-oaked Semillon with lemon grass and sweet citrus notes. Full creamy yet elegant and balanced. Serve with lemon chicken roast pork and apple sauce or a veal and olive casserole.
