Castillo Labastida 2004 RED Spain

With its creamy oak and fresh red berry flavours Castillo Labastida is always an irresistible Rioja - made from the region's most noble grape Tempranillo by a master practitioner. Throw in the fact that 2004 has been officially rated excellent and this new vintage is better than ever! Energetic winemaker Manuel Ruiz Pedreira has worked in Germany as well as for Bodegas Faustino. His father trained in Montpellier is also a well respected winemaker in Spain. Both have built on the work of Bodega founder Don Manuel Quintano. He introduced the Bordeaux winemaking techniques and converted Labastida into a pioneering centre way back in 1787. Good colour with lots of fresh red berry fruit aromas. Fruity ripe flavours with touches of chocolate oak and spice with a good structured finish that keeps going. Perfect with roast lamb risottos and tapas.
