XV du President 2005 RED France

The arrival of the 2005 vintage Le XV du President was eagerly anticipated. Excellent harvest reports from XV's mountain village home of Opoul had us all tapping our feet impatiently. Expectation was exceeded. Hot Summer days and cool nights produced a spectacularly flavoursome (though tiny) yield of Grenache and a magnificently opulent dark wine (befitting regal status). This is a BIG RED of serious quality! Le XV best known by its deserved nickname King of the Big Reds has been a legend here for well over a decade. In the last few years extra layers of charm and finesse have been added to its traditional recipe of rich colour concentrated flavour and velvet-smooth texture. Dark ruby in colour with spicy succulent black fruit and chocolate and herby hints ... perfect with roast beef or pork - better still with venison and wild boar!
