Terres Falmet Vieilles Vignes Reserve 2005 RED France

We wouldn't even have heard of this wine if it hadn't been for a tip-off from old friends the Dampt brothers of Chablis. "Check out our cousin's red" they said - so we headed south! Our buyer tasted Yves Falmet's sumptuous old-vine reserve on a tractor bonnet perched on steep slopes surrounded by ancient Syrah Grenache and Mourvedre vines deep in the Languedoc ... and thought "wow!" Yves' obsession for perfection is incredible! His home is a caravan with no electricity in the middle of the vineyard ... nothing is allowed to distract him from his winemaking and the results are fantastic! Spicy full-bodied and packed with deep plummy black fruits. It boasts a mouthfilling intensity thanks to 90-year-old vines. A little careful ageing in barriques adds a hint of toasty oak ... and the richness of the 5-star 2005 vintage is an added bonus! Don't miss it.
