Mitchell's Pass Petit Verdot 2006 RED South Africa

Forget the 'petit' this should be 'turbo'! Given the chance to ripen fully Petit Verdot's bold structure and deep dark black fruit behave like "Cabernet on steroids!" (Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine). Traditionally grown in Bordeaux where it is used only by the very best properties to give extra 'oomph' to their pricier clarets. In South Africa it ripens perfectly and is beginning to make a name for itself as a single variety - producing really deep reds like Mitchell's Pass. Named after a track in the mountains above the small town of Wolsey Robertson leading to the beautiful Ceres Valley this big red has been softened by a small portion of barrel-aged bush vine Merlot rounding out the wine with creamy plummy fruit. Just the thing to enjoy with roast beef or a hearty lasagne.
