Marchesi di Montecristo Nerello del Bastardo RED Italy

When Nerello del Bastardo was first introduced it was all sold from our cellars within 8 days! It hails from the aristocratic vineyards of northern Italy and is in principle #20-a-bottle 5-star vintage Barolo made seductively smooth through an inspired union with the noble Sangiovese grape of Tuscany. The great news is that such marriages are frowned upon by the Italian wine authorities (hence the Bastardo of the title and humble vino da tavola status). It means a remarkably low price for such a well-made wine. A terrific high-impact wine in the Barolo style with the confidence of a super-Tuscan. Aged in barrel for extra smoothness and depth. Italian wine laws dictate that Nerello cannot display the vintage on the bottle but we can reveal that the grapes used are from the 2000 vintage. By blending the Nebbiolo with 30% Sangiovese from the warm Tuscan region they make a unique "Super Piedmontese" - hence the name Nerello del Bastardo refering to the "illegitimate child" of Barolo and Tuscany!
