Ladera de la Vega Garnacha 2004 RED Spain

Old Garnacha vines are a unique treasure of Spain - responsible for many of the country's top wines and La Mancha is home to both the oldest ... and the best! Local hero Bienvenido Munoz coaxes tremendously rich velvety reds from timeworn gnarled vines - many tree-trunk thick - that were planted over 50 years ago by his grandfather. It's a family skill - his father was named Number One producer in all La Mancha in 2003 ... and Bienvenido followed in his footsteps by being voted 2004 local Winemaker of the Year. Ladera de la Vega has the depth of colour and flavour you only get from such seriously old vine - precious drops of lip-stainingly dark liquid squeezed from ridiculously low yields. There's layer upon layer of sweet ripe raspberry and dark cherry fruit. Juicy succulent and very velvety. No oak required! Perfect with winter casseroles.
