Gran Tarapaca Carmenere 2005 RED Chile

This barrel-matured single estate gem is from our friends at Tarapaca in the Maipo valley - where rocky free-draining soil makes for quality wines often compared to Bordeaux and the Napa Valley. Widely cultivated in the Medoc in the 18th century Carmenere is a rare old Bordeaux variety that has made a dramatic comeback in Chile ... producing dark intensely ripe reds like this. Bursting with ripe cherry and redcurrant flavours. Smoky toasty and brooding with spice and coffee. Perfect with pasta in pesto strong cheeses and roasted red meats.
