Felton Pinot Noir 2006 RED New Zealand

Felton Road is to Pinot Noir what Cloudy Bay is to Sauvignon - an undisputed icon among New Zealand wines. "Profoundly complex aromatic beautifully expansive Pinot that tastes like top-notch red Burgundy" says Robert Parker. Winemaker Blair Walter of Felton Road has shown the world that the Kiwi's are serious about taking the French on at their own game. Cool climate Otago is the most southerly wine producing region on the planet and it's had a mixed bag of fortunes. From mining to soft fruit production in the mid 1990's winemakers began to realise it's potential for fine wine production and started planting Pinot Noir.Otago is now at the heart of the challenge for truly great Pinot Noir long held by Burgundy. Wild berries and herb aromas waft invitingly from the glass. The palate has spice savour and immense fruit concentration but plenty of elegance too expressed in cherry red berry and redcurrant fruits. A hint of musky rose petal follows and the finish is fresh and lifted. Ideal with roasts (turkey) game and roast vegetable dishes.
