Castillo Labastida 2005 RED Spain

With its creamy oak and fresh red berry flavours barrel-aged Gold-medal gem Castillo Labastida is always an irresistible Rioja ... and the 2005 vintage - officially excellent and according to the bodega its "best-ever" vintage - is even more tempting! Energetic winemaker Manuel Ruiz Pedreira has plenty of experience having worked several vintages in Germany as well as for renowned Bodegas Faustino. Together with his father - also also a well-respected winemaker - Manuel has built on the work of founder Don Manuel Quintano who introduced the Bordeaux winemaking techniques that converted Labastida into a pioneering estate way back in 1787. "Lashings of fresh red berry fruit spiced strawberry and dark chocolate aromas. Mellow vanilla oak and spice give a smooth structured finish that lasts and lasts. Perfect with roast lamb and tapas."
