Arco del Castillo Gran Reserva 1998 RED Spain

Hailing from the small Yecla region in southern Spain this 8-year-old rarity boasts the concentrated smoothness only century-old vines and patient ageing can bring. Yecla is an up-and-coming region singled about by Robert Parker for its "astonishing value". The Casta?o family has been making wine at this cellar since the 1900's and they are the 'Kings of Monastrell' - a deeply coloured intense variety that's more commonly know as Mourvedre. Matured to mellow perfection in barrel and bottle this seductive spicy red has rich plum and damson flavours plus a luxurious sweet-oaky finish. Evolved savoury notes and soft tannins make it a great accompaniment to lamb and hard cheeses.
